Tips

Use the built-in scanner to photograph art

KidArt’s camera scanner can automatically recognize and crop art on rectangular sheets of paper or canvas. Select between three scan modes by tapping the rectangle button in the upper right of the camera controls:

  1. Scan + auto-capture: Scan the camera view for art, and automatically take a photo when the scanner is confident it has found a match.

  2. Scan on: Scan the camera view for art, but wait for you to manually take the photo.

  3. Scan off: Do not scan for art.

The scanner displays a yellow overlay on any recognized artwork. It works by visually finding rectangles in the camera’s view. It functions best, therefore, when you place art against a solid, contrasting background. Patterns on the background surface or on the art itself can make scanning less reliable.

Tap and hold photos in the photo grid

Tap and hold a photo in any photo grid to see an uncrossed version. This will also reveal the available actions for that photo, making it a shortcut for selecting the photo and then tapping the menu button to see actions.

Swipe between photos in full screen mode

After tapping a photo in an album to enter full screen mode, you can swipe left and right through the album’s other photos. Pinch or double tap to zoom. Swipe down to dismiss.

Tap the artist name in artist albums

Tap the artist name in the top bar of any artist album to toggle the bar subtitle between showing the artist age or the date for the first visible photo.

Use search filters

Tap Search photos in the action menu of an art album. The resulting search field allows you to search for caption text, but tapping the button next to the search field also lets you filter your results. Use it to see all the photos that match a set of artists, a date range, or a favorite status. After searching and filtering, select the photos you want and use the Share menu item to share the chosen photos or to export them to an album in Photos.

Use the date calculator

If you’re unsure when a piece of art was made, use the date calculator to assign a date based on the artist’s approximate age. Tap the calendar icon next to the Set a date option in the art info screen to reveal the date calculator.

Navigate with tab taps

Tap the selected tab again to scroll the current screen to top. Tap the tab yet again to go back to the tab’s root screen.

Find art without an assigned artist

To find KidArt photos with no assigned artists, enter the All album. Tap Search photos in the action menu. Tap the filter button next to the search field. De-select all artists in the filter screen.
